2002 Wedding Photojournalist Association Photography Contest:

2002 WPJA Using Available Light / Available Lighting

FIRST PLACE - David Beckstead [more]

Photo © 2002 by David Beckstead

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:

David Beckstead's gorgeous first place winning photo is utterly beautiful. It has gorgeous light, so gorgeous it becomes the photo's entire raison d'être. It has a dreamy, lyrical effect. The quality of light is both soft and dramatic.

SECOND PLACE - Todd Hougas [more]

Photo © 2002 by Todd Hougas

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:

The second place photo was a sweet lovely moment. The photo is helped by beautiful doorway light. The use of black space gives it a painterly feel.

THIRD PLACE - Bill McCollough [more]

Photo © 2002 by Bill McCollough

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:

The third place image of the elegant elderly couple was reminiscent of something from England. Charming image.

OVERALL CATEGORY COMMENTS:

Available light category entries would have been better entered into different categories based on content.
