WPJA recognizes the accomplishments and creative excellence in the wedding photojournalism industry. Contest competitions reward talent with cash awards, trophies, WPJA t-shirts, a traveling trophy, titles and professional recognition.

An experienced panel judges contest entries within the following categories:

01. Getting Ready - 1. $200. 2. $100. 3. $50. [USD]
“Getting Ready” entries spontaneously capture the prepping, grooming, arranging, outfitting and nail biting before the ceremony.

02. Ceremony - 1. $200. 2. $100. 3. $50. [USD]
“Ceremony” shots catch guests and participants throughout pre-ceremony, vow and receiving line activity.

03. Reception - 1. $200. 2. $100. 3. $50. [USD]
“Reception” photographs document festivities from the cocktail hour through the last dance and departure.

04. Action - 1. $200. 2. $100. 3. $50. [USD]
AN ADDITIONAL $100. USD AWARDED FOR THIS CATEGORY FOR 1ST PLACE
“Action” entries capture key moments in peak action, highlighting body language and/or expressions.

05. Emotion - 1. $200. 2. $100. 3. $50. [USD]
“Emotion” entries unobtrusively freeze emotions and intriguing expressions ranging from joy to tears.

06. Silhouettes, Shadows & Good Light NEW - 1. $200. 2. $100. 3. $50. [USD]
“Silhouettes, Shadows & Good Light” entries include portrait or candid graphic images brilliantly emphasizing natural and/or artificial light, darkness, backlight and/or shadow.

07. Five Images From One Wedding (5 from 1) NEW
$1000. USD AWARDED FOR THIS CATEGORY
“5-From-1” entries combine five different images from the same wedding. Images should not be sequential. 5-From-1 photo entries may be submitted in another category for the additional entry fee. Winning images from prior 2004 WPJA contests are also eligible for 5-From-1. Entry fee is $10. per image, or $50. per submission. An entry in this category counts as one entry overall.

Please follow the same sizing entry guide for each image in this category. Do not combine them into a collage entered as one file.

5-From-1 winners acquire more points for First Place (25 points), Second Place (20 points) and Third Place (15 points). Additionally, two Honorable Mention placements are awarded in THIS CATEGORY ONLY (worth 10 points each). Cash award levels are:

08. Creative Portraits - 1. $200. 2. $100. 3. $50. [USD]
“Creative Portraits” capture the bridal party, grandparents, friends, children, bride, groom and/or any other posed party using a fresh and artistic approach. Candid moments are not eligible for portraiture entry. Creativity will be rewarded.
